On 18 October 2021 the award ceremony for Exemplary Building in the district of Biberach took place in the large conference room of the Biberach district office. Among the awarded projects was also the "BLANK Business Center" (BBC) which was planned and realised with the architects of kerler + partner in Sigmaringen. The building stood out with 14 other construction projects from the 53 submissions, especially under the aspect of "Commercial construction in existing buildings". "The aim was to preserve a part of the original building and skilfully integrate it into a new architecture," explains Robert Rettich, head of operational management at BLANK, "For example, the staircase in the entrance area was taken over and integrated into the new building." The staircase dates back to the time when the building housed a discotheque and a warehouse and could already be preserved during earlier conversion measures.

"Building in the existing properties is a current and important topic, especially with regard to sustainability," emphasizes Günther Kerler of kerler+partner. Existing architecture entails challenges, but also new opportunities and design possibilities. At the award ceremony he reported on the process of the project: "The building of the current BBC was already used for various purposes in the past, then converted into offices. It was very exciting to build on this and develop a new spatial concept for the building which is characterised by multifunctionality and flexible concepts."

For meanwhile more than four years the BBC has been used as offices and for meetings. Manuela Schmid from corporate communications explains at the award ceremony:
"I have been already working in the building before the renovation and now have a permanent workspace in the BBC again. Working in the office landscape allows flexibility and quicker reactions to new requirements such as enlarging departments or using communal corners. We have a lot of creative freedom here." The working atmosphere in the bright rooms is very pleasant. „I like to work in the open space office although it was a real challenge and change at the beginning.“

The award was presented at the official award ceremony on 18 October 21. "We are delighted about this award and the appreciation of the building project," explains Robert Rettich, "A lot of work and heart and soul went into the redesign of the office complex. The successful implementation was only possible thanks to the excellent cooperation with the architects from kerler+partner and the companies involved in the construction to whom we would like to express our sincere thanks once again.“
