From analytical equipment to dental equipment - investment casting is used in all applications in the medical sector. At MedtecLIVE in Nuremberg BLANK presented some application examples. According to the organizer, this fair is already the second largest trade fair for medical technology in Europe. It takes place annually in Nuremberg and specializes in the medical technology industry beginning from the supplier up to the manufacturer.
For BLANK the medical technology is an industry with interesting investment casting requirements that permits a wide range of applications. "BLANK already manufactures components such as surgical instruments and accessories for surgical robots," reports Lionel Genesi, Head of Industrial Sales. For example we produce a complex cast part that is used in a robot to perform brain operations. This results in strict requirements for a pore-free and thus germ-free surface and the quality of the casting. But investment casting from BLANK is not only found in surgical equipment. Cast parts are also installed in headlamps used in the medical sector. The main focus here is on reducing the weight of the component and on a complex and filigree design.
After three days of intensive discussions and new contacts the trade fair team at MedtecLIVE has drawn a positive balance. "We have made interesting new contacts and it has been shown that there is a great deal of investment casting potential in this market," says Lionel Genesi, summing up the event. The industry's requirements for high surface quality and complex lightweight construction coincide with the strengths of the investment casting process. In addition, there is the decisive advantage that, depending on the material, the investment castings are resistant to aggressive media and can therefore be cleaned sterilely which enables them to be reused and thus represents an ecological alternative to plastic parts.
