BLANK is upgrading its internal communication: a new intranet has been available to employees since 1 January 2023. "It was an important objective during the introduction that all employees should be able to access current information equally quickly," says Juliane Blank who is responsible for digitalisation in her management function, "The new intranet can be accessed both on the computer and on the mobile phone. This allows us to reach the employees in the production in particular faster and more efficiently than before via paper notices." In addition, the intranet offers the possibility for departmental data storage. "Eliminating data silos was a central concern for us in the project," says Gabriel Schwarz who was responsible for the introduction of the new intranet in a team with Carolin Mangold, "Data can now be managed and edited securely within defined groups on the new intranet. This means that everyone always has the current status which makes collaboration much easier." Another objective was the integration of workflows into the new system. It is now possible to place lunch orders for the canteen or even home office notifications directly on the intranet. "Until now, lunch was ordered at order terminals with the help of catering keys," explains Carolin Mangold, "Ordering via smartphone and computer is much faster and more convenient, we also hope that this will increase the use of the canteen service."
For the launch of the new system, the project managers came up with something special. "It was important to us that the employees click through the different pages and the functions provided, so we hid Easter Eggs throughout the intranet." Behind the term Easter Egg are creative names which can be found behind click icons on the intranet. If a user "stumbles" across it, it can be reported to the project team with a simple click. "As a small prize, finders get a meal in the canteen," says Mangold, "We are excited to see if all Easter Eggs will be found and wish our colleagues a lot of fun while searching."
